Living
in Ireland
Over the past decade Ireland has undergone a phenomenal economic
transformation. It is now the fastest growing economy in Western
Europe.
Unemployment has been virtually eliminated, output and productivity
have increased, infrastructural improvements have been made
and Irish people have seen a real improvement in their standard
of living. Indeed, Ireland is now taking in approximately
40,000 foreign workers each year.
Thankfully, this economic activity has not been at the expense
of one of Ireland's main natural resources – the beauty and
diversity of its landscape and countryside. And Irish people
have remained essentially warm and welcoming to the thousands
of students who come to Ireland each year to study and work.
Dublin, the capital, with over a million inhabitants, still
maintains the atmosphere of a town rather than a major metropolis.
Its hugely young population – the youngest in Europe - creates
a wonderful dynamic energy which is felt in both the professional
and social areas of Dublin life. The regeneration of Dublin
city centre over the past ten years has meant that Dublin
has regained its place as the most exciting capital city in
Europe. And of course, it’s pubs are legendary in their own
right!
