What is IELTS?

IELTS stands for International English Language Testing Service. The IELTS examination is taken by students who want to live, study or work in an English-speaking country, and especially by those who are going to follow academic courses at a university or similar institution, or more general training courses. Our nearest test centre is University College Dublin.

IELTS is set up by:
1. The British Council
2. IDP Education Australia (IELTS)
3. The University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate

Students on the IELTS course will take the examination at the end of their academic year. We will be focusing on all key skills necessary for the examination during the year and the last four weeks of their course we will be focusing on examination practice and preparation.

To do well in IELTS you will need to:

Speak and write confidently, fluently and accurately on a wide range of topics.
Understand information quickly and accurately in different types of reading and listening texts on
a wide range of topics.
Have confident control of a wide range of grammar and vocabulary.

Professionalism and Quality

The classes are taught by qualified enthusiastic teachers, and your work in class and for homework will be focused on passing the IELTS examination.

Homework will be set regularly. You will be expected to do the homework and hand it in to the teacher at the specified time.

All work is guaranteed to be marked and returned to you within two days

The Course

You will be instructed in all the four key skills of the IELTS test:

Reading
Writing
Listening
Speaking

WHAT HAPPENS IN YOUR CLASS

Classes start on time, so please arrive a few minutes early.

We provide all the class material which includes :

Course books

Dictionaries

Additional photocopied material

Videos

You need to bring your own pen and paper. It is also a good idea to start your own dictionary to help develop your English vocabulary.

Each session will focus on one module. We use a wide variety of teaching materials in each session – courses books, videos, white boards, handouts etc. Suitable practice materials might include book extracts; the editorial section of newspapers; feature articles, news reports, case studies. We also use videos of documentaries, news, current affairs programmes etc.

You will be given homework on a regular basis and we expect you to complete this. This will be marked and returned to you within 2 days or sooner. We will make comments on areas of difficulties and make suggestions on how to improve your work.

You progress will be reviewed on a regular basis. We conduct in-class tests once a month and we will give you feedback on your progress.

We also ask both you and your teachers to comment on your progress each term. We can then discuss this with you.

HOW TO MAKE BEST USE OF YOUR CLASSES

Our teachers are highly qualified and experienced and we use a wide variety of teaching materials to improve your learning. However, you are also responsible for your own learning. To make the most from each session you should:

Participate fully and get involved in all the class activities.
Ask questions if you do not understand something – you are here to learn so please ask us if you

are having difficulties.
Complete your homework – this is important if you want to improve your learning.

Show respect to other students and listen when they are speaking.
Answer questions and get involved in discussions.
Use the progress reviews and make suggestions on how we can help improve your learning.
