ABE Diploma in Business Administration

Course Duration:             1 Year Full Time Study

Entry Dates:                      September and January

Next course start date is September 2008 (provisional start date)

An ABE Diploma provides a professional qualification that may be used to prepare directly for a career in business, or to gain advanced entry onto a range of professional qualifications and university business courses. The course provides students with an appreciation of the theoretical issues currently involved in the study of business and a range of practical skills which will enhance their value to potential employers. Major themes running throughout the programme include Management, Finance and Accounting, Marketing and IT.

What is the course structure?

The course is made up of 9 modules, all of which are assessed by external examination.

What subjects will I study?

You will take the following subjects on the ABE Diploma programme:

Diploma Part 1

Economics
Organisational Behaviour
Accounting
Business Communication

Part 2

Marketing
Human Resource Management
Managerial Accounting
Systems Analysis
Quantitative Methods


Entry Requirements

Two GCE ‘A’ Levels or an ABE Certificate

or at least two years relevant work experience.

A minimum English level of IELTS 5.5 or TOEFL 65-78.

English Support

Included in the cost of your course are three hours a week of Business English language lessons. If you require additional support, the college will incorporate this into your timetable. In addition to these classes you can make one-to-one appointments with your tutors who will proof read your work, offer advice on study strategies and help you prepare for your examinations.

How is the course assessed?

The course is assessed by external examination. Examinations are held twice a year usually in May or December.

Exam Grades are as follows:

Grade A – 70% Distinction
Grade B – 55%-69% Credit
Grade C - 40%-54% Pass
Grade D – 30-39% Fail
Grade E – 29% and below Fail

Candidates will be notified individually of their results, normally about two months after the examinations.

What can I do at the end of the course?

The Business Administration Diploma provides a professional qualification which may be used to gain advanced entry for further studies and will provide a qualification that is recognized by potential employers.

On successful completion of this course you can:
Proceed to Advanced Diploma level
Apply to the second year of certain Bachelor’s degree courses at universities in Ireland, the UK or other overseas institutions.
 Apply to take other qualifications at certain professional institutes.
Use this qualification to further your career in business.
