A BTEC National Award in Business is a practical, work-related
course. You learn by completing projects and assignments that
are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and
demands. You focus on a particular subject area and develop
a range of specialist skills and knowledge.
This course will give you an excellent understanding of business
practice and a broad knowledge of business-related skills
and may also qualify you for University entry.
What is the course structure?
The course is made up of six units: four core units, which
everyone takes, and two specialist units. The specialist units
enable you to study particular areas in more depth.
What subjects will I study?
All students take the four core units: The programme consists
of both mandatory and optional units that cover a variety
of aspects with the business sector.
These include:
Introduction to Business
Business and Management
Presenting Business Information
Creative Product Promotion
And two optional units
Business Enterprise
Business On-Line
Accountancy Options
Human Resource Options
Marketing Options
Law Options
Entry Requirements
A minimum English level of IELTS 5.5 or equivalent is required.
BTEC First Diploma or examinations of 4 GCSEs at grades A-C
or equivalent.
Applicants over 19 may be accepted without these qualifications.
English Support
Included in the cost of your course are three hours a week
of Business English language lessons. If you require additional
support, the college will incorporate this into your timetable.
In addition to these classes you are able to make one-one
appointments with the EFL tutors who will proof read your
work, help you plan your assignments, offer advice on study
strategies and help you prepare for presentations.
How is the course assessed?
The course is assessed by assignments. There are no
examinations. Units 3 and 5 are assessed by an Integrated
Vocational Assignment which is externally set and marked.
All other units are internally assessed and graded by your
lecturers.
An overall grade for the qualification is awarded to all
learners who successfully complete all units. Grades awarded
are Pass, Merit or Distinction.
What can I do at the end of the course?
The course fulfils the entry requirements for a range of
degree, HND and professional higher education courses.
BTEC National qualifications are also valued by employers
and lead to career opportunities in business specialisms such
as finance, human resources, management or marketing as well
as other business related careers.
Learners may also progress within employment to professional
qualifications such as those offered by the Chartered Institute
of Marketing.
Learners may progress into higher education degree courses
or BTEC Higher National courses.
